A medical examination is required for:

All persons included in an immigration application, whether accompanying to Canada or not (regardless of their age or category).
any visitor, temporary worker or student intending to be more than six months in Canada.
certain temporary workers (such as doctors) regardless of the period of their employment in Canada.
any other visitors regardless of the length of their stay in Canada where required by the High Commission.
The purpose of the medical examination is to determine whether the applicant or dependants have:

a serious communicable disease, or
a condition that could place an excessive demand on the public health care or social service system in Canada.
The examination will include the following:

full physical examination for all family members;
large PA chest X–ray and a radiologist's report for any person aged 11 or over
blood test (VDRL or similar test) for everyone aged 15 or over
urinalysis (sugar, protein, and blood) for all applicants aged 5 or over.
HIV testing
At the time of medical examination, you and all family members will be required to present passports or other documents as evidence of identity.

Medical examination forms are usually sent to the client after being conditionally approved for immigration. Along with the forms, we will provide a list of designated medical practitioners (DMP's) in your area. These are the only doctors permitted to perform the immigration medical examinations for the Canadian government. Clients must make their own appointment with the physician. However, you should not make an appointment with one of them until you have received the medical forms from us. The cost of the medical examination and lab tests are the responsibility of the client.

Once the examination has been completed, the forms and laboratory results are sent by the physician to our medical services in Nairobi. We strongly recommend that you arrange to have the forms sent to Nairobi by private courier (at your expense) as the transit time of air mail to Kenya is quite lengthy.

A Canadian physician resident in Nairobi Kenya reviews the medical examination information and advises us directly of the results. As the physician in Nairobi is responsible for processing medical results for all of eastern and southern Africa, medical processing times can be quite lengthy. Please do not attempt to contact the Nairobi office concerning your medical file.

We are unable to contact each applicant to advise them of the results of their medical examination. We will only contact the applicant concerning their examination if problems have been identified or if further tests have been requested by the physician in Nairobi. Passed examinations are valid for one year from the date the examination was performed.
