Cambridge has the better research record, but QMW's superior teaching-quality grade makes the difference since neither has separately listed A-level averages. Unusually, no institution achieved maximum grades for either teaching or research. Thames Valley is the best placed new university, matching Cambridge for both teaching and research grades, but the subject has been a victim of cutbacks required for the university's survival. Hertfordshire and Luton also made the top 20 from the new university sector. |
