Almost 20 universities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were rated as excellent, but some of the most popular courses, such as those at Bristol and Nottingham, were no more than satisfactory. Four institutions scored maximum points for both teaching and research: King's College and University College London, and Cambridge and Warwick. Average entrance qualifications of almost three As at A level tip the balance in favour of Cambridge. No new university features in the top 40 places. |
