Both were among the 19 institutions rated as excellent for teaching quality and they registered the only five-star grades for research. Imperial College, London, remains the nearest challenger, as one of the seven universities on the next rung of the research ladder, and with the highest entry grades outside Oxbridge. Only Nottingham Trent represents the former polytechnics in the first 40 places. It and Robert Gordon were the only new universities rated excellent at teaching. |
