| The British Government will be offering two scholarships jointly sponsored by the Royal College of Physicians to enable mid-career Chinese doctors to receive further professional training in an appropriate National Health Service clinical department in the UK. Full scholarship will be offered for a period of not more than one year. The scholarship will cover all costs in Britain, including tuition fees; living expenses and international air travel to the UK. Study arrangements will be made by the British Council, which is known as the Cultural and Education Section, British Embassy in China. The Council administers the programme on behalf of the British Government and the Royal College of Physicians. Extensions to the award will not be granted. They should have had a minimum of four years clinical training either after their degree or as part of their degree. ·Candidates would have to meet the English language requirement - minimum of 7.0 in all four components of the IELTS Academic module test, including speaking, writing, reading and listening. Shortlisted candidates will be given the formal FCO Chevening Scholarship Applicaton Form in the week of 6th of May. ·Candidates should submit completed Chevening Application Forms, Referees Forms and their acdemic certificates to Xiong Lisong by 18th of May 2002. Two copies of the originals are required as well. ·Candidates will have to have the approval of their Danwei, in forms of official stamps, before the British Council will process their applications. ·Candidates being shortlisted against their application forms will be arranged to sit IELTS on 6th June 2002. The Council will make IELTS reservations for the candidates only and will not cover the test fee. The Royal College of Physicians: The Royal College of Physicians is a professional body representing adult physicians. It covers medicine as a hospital speciality and sub specialities such as those listed above. There are a number of disciplines such as intensive care which are shared with other specialist colleges.
